Professor Simon Stewart

Professor Simon Stewart

Professor Simon Stewart PhD FESC FAHA is a National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia Senior Principal Research Fellow and an Executive Member of the World Heart Failure Society.

For the past 25 years the twin focus of his health services research has been large-scale population and community-based studies to understand an evolving burden of heart disease and, in response, the development of innovative models of care to improve related health outcomes.

Through the publication of more than 300 research papers (many in high impact journals such as The Lancet, Circulation and European Heart Journal) and ten books, Professor Stewart has been instrumental in describing the impact and optimal management of heart failure around the world. This includes seminal reports on the evolving epidemiology and burden of heart failure in Europe, Australia and Africa; the latter via the seminal Heart of Soweto Study. It also includes a series of seminal trials examining the cost-effectiveness of nurse-led, multidisciplinary management of heart failure that have led to the application of health services throughout the world.
